2019 KANAB ADVENTURE

Day 3
Caliente, NV to Kanab, Utah

The shortest leg of our journey was today and probably one of the best. We saw Big Boy 4014. Yes we did. Let me share some facts with you. It is the largest steam locomotive made, has an articulating frame, 4-8-8-4 wheel pattern, weighs 1.2m pounds, one of 25 built, only 8 remain, and the tender holds 25k gallons of water.
Waiting for the train.

Someone even ate an ant while we were waiting.

Ted showing us his seafood.

And the train arrived. The children were jumping and all were excited.

What a fantastic piece of machinery.

The day continued with a drive over a highway pass that was 9910’ in elevation. It tried to keep us back but the A won after a short rest. Once in Kanab all was good and we meet up with all our friends from SCVC.

Eight couples and one grandson came in A’s, four couples came in modern cars, six couples towed their A’s with modern cars and one couple towed an A with their motorhome. They’re all brave and fun people the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the Model A Ford Group of America.
