2019 KANAB ADVENTURE

Day 11
Tehachapi, CA to San Jose, CA
The last leg of our trip.

First order of business: See the Tehachapi Train loop.

Tehachapi is derived from the Kawaiisu language from a Native American tribe meaning 'hard climb'. And with that you can understand why railfans are intrigued with the train loop to help trains up and down the steep grade. Trains run through Tehachapi every 30 minutes.

The famous Tehachapi Train Loop.

Stretching our legs and watching the train.

True railfans watch trains when ever possible.

Catching up with the train after we got back on the freeway.

Named after Thomas Baker who moved to the banks of the Kern River in 1863 at what became Baker's Field which became a popular stopover for travelers. Between 1970 and 2010, Bakersfield grew 400% making it one of the fastest growing cities in California.
It is also known for the birthplace of country music genre, the Bakersfield sound made famous by Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam.

Bakersfield, Kern County is the fourth-most productive agricultural county (by value) in the United States. Bakersfield is known for natural gas, and other energy extraction, mining, petroleum refining, distribution, food processing and corporate regional offices.

James Dean is bigger than life at Blackwell's Corner in Lost Hills, CA.

Just being cool in Blackwell Corners.

After lunch we pulled out of Coalinga. I swear Bob must have robbed a bank. We followed this truck for a while and enjoyed the view while listening to Bob sing his song on the CB radio.

Following behind a Harris Ranch truck. That smell...it's called money.

Everyone has a bad case of 'Iwanttogethome-itis'.

💙 Thank you Patti & Bob Meneely, SCVC members, who made this tour so much fun. They provided itineraries, and stops that were fun and informative. 💙

Bob and Patti followed while we led the group and got the pleasure of dodging our backfires. Patti was at the wrong place, at the wrong time.  😂

Seriously, no one was hurt in this picture or on this tour!
And the car was fixed in Kanab when Mark changed the distributor.
